Artist Statement

My art practice is a reflection of my experience as a human, artist and educator.

I taught my students to embrace the gifted mistakes in their work. I use paint and drawing media to help me document, reflect, research, process, and learn from my human experience.

Most of my recent works are abstractions. Ideas create form and my current work explores the dynamics of order and chaos. Gestural abstraction serves to represent the unpredictable elements of nature or that which is out of our control. Geometric structures manufacture order and control. I enjoy exploring the visual contrast of these two forces. Creating this work helps me process experiences in my own life that are out of my control. It is also a reminder of the control we do have in our response to life’s chaos.
